Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote server or to exchange data between a hosting server and a client. Given that the info exchanged by the two sides is encrypted, a third party cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a preferred means of handling a web hosting account. The commands which may be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, in particular, the choices are limited because you won't have root access to the hosting server, so you may simply create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, import and export databases, and so on. These are all actions which are carried out inside the shared hosting account and don't require a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall be able to install server-side software or to restart the machine or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, but if you don't employ a UNIX-like Operating System, there are tons of applications for other OSs, you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

If the shared hosting package deal that you’ve selected through the signup procedure offers SSH access by default, you shall be able to activate this feature with only a click inside your Hepsia CP. If you've chosen a different plan, the SSH access feature may be included using the Upgrades menu and it'll become available instantly. The information that you need to connect will be conveniently listed within the SSH section of the Control Panel - the hostname, the username and the port number. You can even set what password to use from the same location and you will be able to modify it anytime. All commands which are allowed are listed inside the Help articles that we have prepared for you, along with examples of the syntax that you need to use. An additional advantage of allowing SSH access to your account is that you shall be able to upload files via an SFTP connection.

The latter may be updated anytime, if needed. These login credentials are also needed if you'd like to upload files through a secure connection and you wish to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service which we offer. A comprehensive list of the commands that you can perform will provide you with a better idea of what tasks you could perform within your account and each is accompanied by a few instances of the syntax.

If you buy a new VPS server from our company, it'll feature full root access and you'll be able to connect to the server and to manage everything through an SSH console. The feature is provided by default with all plans, so you won't have to allow or upgrade anything. Your website hosting server shall be set up immediately after you get it and the instant you receive the Welcome e mail with the login information, you may connect using the server’s main IP address and begin working. Given that the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is separated from the other accounts within the physical machine, there won't be any restrictions with regards to the commands that you can use. You will have full root access, so that you can install and run any application which can work on a Linux web server, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot the whole machine or any software operating on it.
